When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Troup
The city services page states Troup requires permits for construction of residences and commercial buildings. The posted fee ordinance also covers alterations, additions, remodels, HVAC work, plumbing, electrical, signs, demolition, house moving, driveways, fencing, mobile homes, temporary use permits, solar panels, roof replacement, and swimming pools.

- Permit validity
- Permits expire after 365 days. One renewal is allowed, and the renewal of an expired permit is $200. If a permit expires and is not renewed within 30 days, the applicant must obtain any other required permit and resubmit plans and specifications as required.
- Contractor requirements
- The fee ordinance states the city does not issue electrical, plumbing, or sign city licenses, but registration is required. Electricians must be licensed by the State of Texas, and electrical contractors must possess a bond as required by state law. Plumbers must be master or journeyman plumbers or supervised apprentices as provided by state law.
