When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Chapin
Chapin states zoning permits are required for any building, sign, or structure that is being altered or when the use of an existing structure changes in the jurisdiction of the town. Building permits are also required through CC&I in addition to the town zoning permit.
Note: No standalone public Chapin exemption list was located on the reviewed town pages. Confirm exempt work directly with CC&I or the Planning & Zoning Manager.
- Chapin zoning permit application
- Architectural review, landscaping, sign, rezoning, annexation, or appeal forms (as applicable)
- Town business license
- Building permit materials required by CC&I
- Plans and supporting documentation
- Building code
- Chapin building fee schedule reflects ICC-style valuation-based permitting through CC&I, but the reviewed town pages did not separately publish a full code-edition list. Confirm current South Carolina code editions with CC&I before filing.
- Permit validity
- Building fee schedule states all building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical permits expire six months after issuance or last inspection.
- Owner-builder
- Town pages reviewed did not publish a separate owner-builder instruction sheet.
- Contractor requirements
- Town states all businesses, companies, and contractors are required to obtain a Town of Chapin business license. Building permit administration is through CC&I, so state LLR licensing still applies for regulated builders and trades.
