When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Cornelius
Cornelius specifically lists new construction, additions, demolitions, interior upfits, accessory structures, decks, pools, docks or piers, and similar work as building-permit examples. Mecklenburg County still controls the code-permit threshold and state-law permit triggers.
Note: Cornelius does not publish a stand-alone exempt-work list on the reviewed page. The Town specifically notes that it does not review trade permits and that County rules determine whether code permits are required. Applicants are encouraged to contact Cornelius before designing or submitting plans to confirm property-specific regulations.
