When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Southeast
A building permit is required before excavation, construction, demolition, or change of occupancy. Permits required for most home improvements, swimming pools, sheds, signs, accessory apartments, and home occupations. Accessory buildings or structures over 48 inches high require permits; all swimming pools require permits; all fences and walls require permits.
