  1. Contact the Land Use Office at (603) 763-2212 ext. 1023 or zoning@town.sunapee.nh.us in the planning stages.
  2. Determine which permits are required: building permit, certificate of zoning compliance, demolition permit, driveway permit, excavation permit, land disturbance application, site plan review (as applicable).
  3. Download applicable application forms from the Land Use Permits and Applications page.
  4. Prepare required documents: site plan or sketch showing proposed building location, construction drawings, NHDES approval if project is near wetlands or Lake Sunapee shoreline.
  5. Authorized agents (builders, architects, electricians, plumbers, project managers, or legal representatives) may apply on behalf of the property owner.
  6. Submit completed application with fee to the Land Use Office.
  7. Application reviewed by Planning, Zoning and Compliance staff.
  8. Permit issued upon approval; post on job site.
  9. Schedule inspections as required at each construction phase.
  10. Final inspection and Certificate of Occupancy.
