When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Cambridge
A building permit is required prior to work on any project that involves erecting, constructing, enlarging, altering, moving, improving, removing, converting, or demolishing any building or structure on a platted lot or parcel.

- 01 Download the building permit application and zoning forms from the Cambridge city website, or obtain paper copies at the City Office.
- 02 Submit the completed application to the City Office for a completeness review.
- 03 The City Office schedules the application for review at an upcoming Cambridge Planning Commission open meeting. The Planning Commission reviews the application and makes a recommendation.
- 04 The City Council gives final approval. No work may begin until City Council approval is obtained.
- 05 Obtain Nebraska State Electrical Division (NSED) electrical permit for any electrical work — contact Gary Lofton, (308) 325-2219, gary.lofton@nebraska.gov.
- 06 For commercial or public-assembly projects, submit plans to the Nebraska State Fire Marshal (NSFM) for fire/life safety plan review at https://sfm.nebraska.gov/
- 07 For any construction disturbing one or more acres, obtain NDEE Construction Stormwater General Permit before breaking ground.
