When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Arapahoe
A building permit is required before building, constructing, removing, or demolishing any building or structure within the City of Arapahoe.

- Names of owner, architect (if applicable), and contractor
- Building code
- 2018 International Building Code (IBC) and 2018 International Residential Code (IRC); 2018 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) mandatory statewide effective July 1, 2020. Local Arapahoe Chapter 150 Building Regulations govern.

- Contractor requirements
- All contractors and subcontractors with Nebraska employees must register annually with the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) for $25 annually (workers' compensation certificate required). No state general contractor license exists in Nebraska.
Application process
Typical processing: Dependent on the City Council meeting schedule. Contact the City Office for current timelines.
- 01 Download and complete the Building Permit application from the city website or pick up a paper copy at the City Office.
- 02 Submit the completed application to city office staff with the $25 permit fee.
- 03 The Zoning Administrator reviews the application for compliance with city ordinances and zoning requirements.
- 04 The City Council reviews the application at an upcoming council meeting.
- 05 Results are mailed to the applicant.
- 06 No work may begin until permit approval is received from the City Council.
- 07 Obtain Nebraska State Electrical Division (NSED) electrical permit for any electrical work — contact Gary Lofton, (308) 325-2219, gary.lofton@nebraska.gov.
- 08 For commercial or public-assembly projects, submit plans to the Nebraska State Fire Marshal (NSFM) for fire/life safety plan review at https://sfm.nebraska.gov/
