When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Water Valley
A permit is required for any new building construction within city limits, structural additions/alterations/renovations, electrical/plumbing/HVAC/mechanical system installation or modification, roofing work, demolition of structures, and any exterior changes to structures within the Historic District.
- Exempt Interior cosmetic work: painting, flooring, cabinet replacement
- Exempt Minor repairs that do not affect structural systems or MEP systems
- Exempt Paint color changes on non-brick surfaces within the Historic District (no Certificate of Appropriateness required for this)
Note: Any exterior modification within the Water Valley Main Street Historic District requires a Certificate of Appropriateness before work begins, including facades, windows, doors, porches, fences, and signage.
