When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Yalobusha County
A permit is required for new construction of any building or structure, additions or structural modifications to existing buildings, electrical/plumbing/HVAC/mechanical system installations or substantial modifications, demolition of structures, and roofing work exceeding $10,000 (residential) or remodeling exceeding $50,000 (residential).
- Exempt Farm buildings and farm structures (Miss. Code § 17-2-7) — exemption does not override floodplain management ordinances
- Exempt Cosmetic and interior work: painting, flooring, cabinet replacement, minor repairs not affecting structural or MEP systems
Note: The farm structure exemption applies to unincorporated areas only. FEMA floodplain management requirements apply regardless of building code exemptions for properties in Special Flood Hazard Areas.
