When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Raymond
New construction, additions, remodeling, roofing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, demolition, signs, and most structural work.
- Exempt Fence under 6 feet in height (permit NOT required for fences under 6 ft)
- Exempt Outbuilding/shed 10 x 12 or smaller with no permanent foundation, no plumbing, no electrical
- Exempt Routine cosmetic maintenance (painting, flooring)
Note: A permit IS required for woodstove or heat pump installation (Mechanical Permit required).

Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final

- 02 Obtain the building permit application from the city website or office
- 03 Complete the application and gather required documents (site plan, contractor license, etc.)
- 04 Submit by email or in person at City Hall, 110 Courtyard Square
- 05 Pay applicable fees through the city payment portal or in person
- 06 Application is reviewed; permit issued upon approval
- 07 Post permit on job site
- 08 Schedule inspections through Tia Channell by email or phone
- 09 Pass all required inspections
- 10 Obtain final approval / Certificate of Occupancy
