When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Dodge County
A zoning permit is required for any dwelling or accessory structure prior to construction in the rural area described by the county permit brochure.
Note: The county brochure does not publish a complete exempt-work list. Township zoning may apply in Ashland, Canisteo, Concord, Ellington, and Ripley townships.

- Interim use permit materials for dwellings on less than 53 acres in Agricultural District
- Septic design by licensed septic designer

- Permit validity
- If an interim use permit is approved, use and all conditions must be satisfied within one year or the permit expires.
- Contractor requirements
- The county refers applicants to the State Electrical Inspector for electrical compliance.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact Environmental Services to determine the permitting process and whether density limits have been reached.
- 02 For a dwelling on less than 53 acres in the Agricultural District, apply for an interim use permit and public hearing.
- 03 Obtain well siting and sewage treatment permits as needed.
- 04 Submit the zoning permit application to Environmental Services.
- 05 Apply for the driveway permit from the appropriate road authority.
- 06 Obtain an address from the county Highway Department.
