When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Charter Township of Hampton
Hampton provides building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical inspection services under the State Construction Code Act. Separate applications are required for each trade. Zoning permit application is separately posted.

- Permit validity

- Owner-builder
- Building and electrical applications include homeowner affidavit for owner-installed work in owner-occupied home and require owner to arrange inspections.
- Contractor requirements
- Applications require contractor license number, FEIN/state employer number, and insurance information. Electrical application requires copy of electrical license.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Download the appropriate building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, site-plan, or special-use form from the township Forms and Documents page.
- 02 Prepare the application and required site sketch. Township requirements specifically call for property-line, street, existing structure, proposed structure, and setback dimensions on permit applications for new homes, decks, porches, garages, and additions.
- 03 Submit the completed application to the township office.
- 04 Township building or trade inspector reviews for state code and township ordinance compliance. Commercial projects require plan review and added plan review fees.
- 05 Pay permit fees.
- 06 Schedule inspections by calling the inspector at least 24 hours in advance.
- 07 Complete final inspection and obtain certificate of occupancy where applicable.

- Inspectors do not have regular office hours. Administrative office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; Friday closed.
