Permit triggers and exempt work for Williamsburg
Building permits are required for new construction, alterations/remodels, mobile homes, accessory buildings, double-wide/modular units, changes in use, sign construction, demolition, excavation, and pools.

- Permit validity
- Permit includes a Void After field; the certificate block is signed only after zoning compliance is confirmed.
- Owner-builder
- Owner-builders are responsible for ensuring all contractors/subcontractors comply with Kentucky workers' compensation (KRS 342) and unemployment insurance (KRS 341) requirements.

- 01 Download the Zoning Permit Application PDF from the Document Center.
- 02 Mark the correct project type: new construction, remodeling/addition, mobile home, accessory building/storage, double-wide or modular, change in use, sign construction, demolition, excavation, or pool.
- 03 Provide applicant, architect, builder, property location, zoning district, proposed use, lot size, setbacks, story count, building dimensions, estimated cost, and fee.
- 04 Sketch the lot on page two showing streets/alleys, existing/proposed structures, and distances to property lines. Attach required building plans on the back of the sheet.
- 05 Record the permit date, Void After expiration date, and certification that the information is accurate; misstatements can lead to revocation.
- 06 Sign the notarized affidavit assuring that all contractors/subcontractors comply with Kentucky workers' compensation (KRS 342) and unemployment insurance (KRS 341) requirements.
- 07 Submit the completed application by mail to P.O. Box 119 or hand-deliver to City Hall.
- 08 After permit issuance, coordinate with the Planning & Zoning office to schedule inspections; a Certificate of Occupancy is issued only after the zoning official inspects and signs the form.
