Commercial construction must have a permit per Kentucky law. No zoning ordinance exists at the county level; individual deed restrictions govern residential lots.

Building code

Kentucky Building Code (including residential provisions) enforced through the DHBC local inspection program. Wes Finley is the county's designated local building inspector.

   Arrange any electrical, plumbing, or HVAC reviews through the Judge's office or the municipal office where the work occurs; state inspectors stand ready when no local inspector is assigned.

   Schedule inspections through Finley's office (Wayne County Health Department, 39 Jim Hill Service Rd, Monticello) and obtain final sign-offs before beginning work or occupying the space.
