Smithland projects follow the Uniform Statewide Building Code under KHBC; virtually every structural, trade, and occupancy change needs a permit.

Note: No municipal exempt-work list has been posted; verify every scope with the county inspector before assuming exemption.

Owner-builder

No local exception; owner-builders must follow KHBC registration.

Contractor requirements

Refer to KHBC trade licensing for any work within city limits.

   Contact Pat Rhodes at 270-339-4188 to determine if the proposed work requires a permit within Smithland.

   Provide the requested drawings and documentation to the inspector at the health department and pay the applicable review fee.

   Coordinate with KHBC for commercial plan review when instructed (state inspectors listed alongside the local contact).

   Schedule inspections through the inspector once fieldwork begins.
