When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Clinton
Every new building, addition, reconstruction, remodel, relocation, or repair in the city must obtain a permit before work begins, per KRS 67.410 and the statewide Kentucky Building Code.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Verify the project needs a permit (all construction requires a permit before starting).
- 02 Visit City Hall to discuss the planned work and obtain any local business/occupational-licensing requirements.
- 03 Call the county building inspector to deliver plans, ownership proof, and the required insurance affidavit.
- 04 Pay the permit fee at the county office (the inspector will convey the current valuation-based fee).
- 05 Request each inspection (footing, frame, utilities, final) via the inspector's office; keep all work accessible as per Kentucky Building Code 109.1.
- 06 Receive the permit/occupancy approval once inspections pass.
