Unincorporated Bracken County

Any new construction, reconstruction, addition, or occupancy change within the county must comply with the Kentucky Building Code once the local subdivision work is approved.

Building code

Kentucky Building Code (815 KAR 7), Kentucky Plumbing Code (815 KAR 20), and Kentucky Standards of Safety (815 KAR 10), enforced statewide.

Contractor requirements

Trade-specific licensing and inspections come from state inspectors (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).

1. 01
   For subdivisions, submit preliminary improvement drawings, site plans, and plats to the planning commission as outlined in the 2016 Subdivision Regulations (including improvement agreements and health department clearances for on-site sewage systems).

   Once the planning commission approves the preliminary plat, file the final plat with the county clerk and record it before any lots may be sold or developed.

   For buildings, contact the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (state building inspector for Bracken County is listed as Bruce Hall) for plan review and issuance because no county-level building inspector is appointed; state inspectors also cover electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and elevator systems.

Inspection hours

Bracken County Health Department office hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with Friday mornings until noon; inspections are scheduled by the state trade offices.

Typical sequence: State building permit includes plan review, followed by progress inspections from code-specific inspectors, then occupancy sign-off.
