Contractor requirements

All contractors, including electricians and plumbers, must file a certificate of liability insurance with the city and be registered contractors with the State of Iowa. All commercial electric permits within city limits must be issued by the State of Iowa.

   Review the city Building Department page and choose the correct permit form, such as new construction, remodeling, residential electrical, plumbing, curb cut, excavation, or water and sewer connection.

   Prepare the application and supporting plans for zoning and building review.

   Submit the permit materials to City Hall and coordinate with the Building Department Coordinator.

   City review checks zoning and building compliance.

   Pay the permit fee online through OurCommunityConnect or by another option described in the city payment instructions PDF.
6. 06
   Obtain permit approval before beginning work.
7. 07
   Complete inspections as directed by the city inspector.
