When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Edinburgh
Edinburgh states an Improvement Location Permit is required before any structure is constructed, reconstructed, moved, enlarged, or structurally altered. A separate code-information sheet also cites a permit requirement for building or structure construction, alteration, or repair when the cost exceeds $500.

Application process

- 01 Download the town permit application and the Building Permit Requirements sheet.
- 02 Determine whether the project needs an Improvement Location Permit, and whether an Occupancy Permit will also be required before use.
- 03 Submit the completed application with construction plans, site plan, value of construction, and any nonresidential state design-release materials.
- 04 The Town Planning Department and or a licensed engineer perform plan review before permit issuance.
- 05 Pay the applicable permit fees to the Clerk-Treasurer.
- 06 Complete final inspection before occupancy.
