When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Hudson
New home, room addition, basement finishing and remodeling, kitchen or bath remodeling, deck, driveway, fence, garage, garden shed, parking pads, roof, and pools all require a building permit.

- Permit validity
- All building permits are limited to one year. Work must begin within 90 days of issuance; a permit expires 91 days after issuance if work has not commenced. If work commences by day 90, the permit remains valid for one year from issuance date.
- Contractor requirements
- Residents must comply with all village ordinances including regulations pertaining to plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work. State-licensed electricians (IDFPR) and plumbers (IDFPR) are required. If the village contracts with outside professionals (consulting engineers or architects) for reviews or inspections, the applicant may be required to pay additional fees. - 01 Call (309) 726-1471 and leave a message to schedule an appointment (the village strongly encourages contacting the Zoning and Permit Department before starting a project to avoid delays or issues with incomplete applications).
- 02 Download Form APEBP-669 Building Permit Application from the village website.
- 03 Complete Sections I and II (all projects); Section III (new buildings or additions only); Section IV (all projects, requires signature); Section IX / back page (all projects, mandatory).
- 04 For accessory structures (sheds, garages, pools): obtain McLean County Health Department approval first, then submit to village.
- 05 For outdoor pools, spas, and hot tubs with water depth of 24 inches or more: complete Form P-001 Outdoor Pool Permit Application and Checklist in addition to the building permit application.
- 06 Submit completed application(s) with required documentation and payment.
- 07 Permit is issued.
- 08 Schedule required inspections. Pools/spas must be inspected before filling with water.
