When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for North High Shoals
Town code Sec. 7.10.5.1 requires a permit before constructing, enlarging, altering, repairing, moving, demolishing, or changing occupancy of a building or structure, and before regulated electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing work.
- Exempt Portable heating appliances
- Exempt Portable ventilation equipment
- Exempt Portable cooling units
- Exempt Steam, hot, or chilled water piping within heating or cooling equipment regulated by the code
- Exempt Replacement of a part that does not alter approval or make the system unsafe
- Exempt Portable evaporative coolers
- Exempt Self-contained refrigeration systems containing 10 pounds or less of refrigerant and actuated by motors of 1 horsepower or less
Note: The town code expressly exempts the above mechanical work from permits. The code also allows ordinary minor repairs with the approval of the Building Inspector without a permit, so long as the repairs do not violate the technical codes.
