Town of Homer

Homer publishes separate permit applications for residential building, commercial building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and accessory building work, which indicates permits are required for those categories.

Building code

Homer forms state that construction must comply with all applicable codes and specifically reference the International Building Codes, but the town does not publish a full current local edition list on the reviewed pages.

Owner-builder

Homer publishes a Homeowner Day Labor Permit Affidavit. The affidavit says the applicant must reside in the completed structure, not plan to offer it for sale for 24 months, personally serve as the general contractor, and hire properly licensed contractors for subcontracted work.

Contractor requirements

Homer forms require contractor state license, business license, and photo ID attachments. The owner-builder affidavit requires properly licensed subcontractors for subcontracted work.

   Download the applicable Homer permit form from the town Forms and Documents page, such as residential building, commercial building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or accessory building permits.

   Complete the application and attach the required contractor information. Homer trade and commercial forms instruct applicants to attach a copy of the contractor's state license, business license, and photo ID.

   If applying as a homeowner, complete the homeowner day labor permit affidavit.

   Submit the completed materials to the town's Planning and Zoning / Building Inspection and Permitting office.

   Contact the town to determine the total permit fee and pay by cash or check payable to Town of Homer where the form so states.

   After permit issuance, schedule inspections through Town Hall at 706-677-3510.
