When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Littleton
Required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change occupancy of a building or structure, or to install/alter/replace electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing systems. All fences and decks require a permit.

- Permit validity
- Permit must be commenced within 180 days; it expires 365 days after issuance regardless of activity unless extended by the Building Official. Extensions may be granted in writing for periods up to 180 days each.
- Owner-builder
- Homeowner permits are limited to owner-occupied residential property. Homeowners doing one discipline do not need to be a general contractor but must submit a Homeowner Affidavit. For projects involving two or more disciplines, the homeowner must hire a city-licensed general contractor or demonstrate sufficient knowledge through ICC testing.
- Contractor requirements
- All contractors working in Littleton must be licensed with the city. Plumbing and electrical applicants must provide proof of active Colorado master/journeyman and contractor licensing as applicable.
