Building permits are invalid if work does not commence within 12 months of issuance or if construction is suspended or abandoned for 12 months; written extensions up to 180 days each may be granted.

- If the owner is the permittee, an owner-builder disclosure must be submitted before issuance.
- Contractor requirements
- The city requires compliance with California Contractors State License Law or a valid exemption.
