Town of Lake View

Building permits apply to replacement of building components, general renovation, accessory buildings, new single-family dwellings, and work on building, electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing systems. Separate trade permits for existing buildings and structures. Land-clearing approval required as separate step.

Owner-builder

If owner is acting as the contractor, a signed affidavit is required.

Current Town of Lake View business license and State of Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board certification required where applicable. Trade permits separately addressed for existing buildings and structures.

   Contact Building & Zoning and confirm project scope, zoning, floodplain status, and whether property is in Lake View's city limits or police jurisdiction.

   Complete the applicable permit application. Handbook describes separate permit paths for land clearing, accessory structures, residential renovations, new single-family dwellings, and trade permits.

   Assemble required submittals: permit application, valuation or contract amount, current Lake View business license, State of Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board certification (unless owner-builder), signed owner affidavit if acting as own contractor, site plan, footing/foundation plan, floor plan, framing plan, one hard copy and one digital copy of plans, electrical/plumbing layout, and typical wall section.
4. 04
   Obtain any prerequisite outside approvals. Handbook references Tuscaloosa County Health Department septic approval and flood-hazard constraints.

   Submit the package to the Building Department for review and permit-fee calculation.
6. 06
   After issuance, call for required inspections at each stage and do not proceed past a required inspection point without release from the building official.

Typical sequence: Initial site inspection for land clearing and erosion controls; footing/foundation inspection; foundation in-place survey; foundation walls inspection; damp-proofing inspection; foundation/crawl-space inspection; additional successive inspections as necessary through completion.
