Application Process

  1. Confirm whether a permit is needed. City guidance says permits are issued for new construction and most repairs or alterations, and advises applicants to call if unsure.
  2. Complete a building permit application and assemble the required documents.
  3. Submit the required plan set, including two physical sets and one electronic PDF set.
  4. City staff performs review. The first plan review typically takes 15 working days and rechecks typically take 5 working days.
  5. After approval, obtain permit issuance. The application expires if no permit is issued within 12 months.
  6. Schedule required inspections and keep the permit active. If the permit becomes inactive for 180 days, it can expire.
