Application Process

1. Download the applicable permit application packet from the Permit Requirements page.
2. Submit the required plan sets and documents: 3 sets of plans, 2 sets of supporting documents, and a digital copy.
3. Include project valuation, property information, APN, contractor details if used, building permit fee information, and required declarations.
4. City staff reviews and routes most plans to an outside plan-check agency, then returns comments.
5. Revise and resubmit plans if notified of required changes.
6. If approved, the city notifies the applicant that the permit is ready for pickup.
7. Pay required fees before permit issuance and do not start work until the permit is issued.

Typical processing time: Outside plan review may take up to 15-20 business days, with an additional 15-20 business days for plan checker review.

General Requirements

City code requires a permit before construction or alteration work is performed for code-regulated buildings and structures. Accessory structures over 120 square feet require a permit, and any accessory structure with electrical or plumbing requires a permit regardless of size.

Permit validity
