Application Process
- Confirm whether the project also needs Planning review, utility/sewer/water approvals, school or transportation impact fees, air district clearance for demolition, or stormwater/BMP documentation before permit issuance.
- Prepare the application. The current online form requires property selection, contractor information, applicant/legal owner details, project valuation and description, and answers to project screening questions.
- If plan review is required, submit the materials listed by the City: six wet-signed plan sets, engineering/structural/energy/soils reports, one digital copy, one completed application, and fees at submittal.
- Submit through the iWorQ portal or use the City form and coordinate with the Building Department. The City states some simple projects can be issued over the counter.
- Wait for plan check. Sand City's FAQ says first review is typically 31 to 45 working days and secondary reviews are typically 21 working days.
- Pay required fees and satisfy any outside-agency conditions. The application form states it is not a permit until review/approval is complete, fees are paid, and required documentation is signed.
