A building permit is required for all new buildings and structures, additions and structural modifications, garages and accessory structures, and projects valued at $2,500+ (residential) or $5,000+ (commercial) that require contractor licensing.

• Exempt Buildings used exclusively for agricultural purposes
• Exempt Minor agricultural, forestry, or resource-extraction-related structures (verify with town)

Note: Rural small-town exemptions may apply for certain agricultural work. Confirm exemption status with town offices.

Contractor requirements

Contractors performing work valued at $2,500+ (residential) or $5,000+ (commercial) must be licensed through the West Virginia Contractor Licensing Board (WVCLB). Application fee is $90; annual renewal also $90.
