A building permit is required for new construction (residential, commercial), structural additions and alterations, electrical/plumbing/mechanical work, demolition, and septic system installation or repair.

• Exempt Farm buildings used exclusively for agricultural purposes may be exempt from State Building Code requirements (West Virginia HB 2663); confirmation should be obtained from the Town Government.

Note: Exempt from building permit does not mean exempt from zoning and planning requirements. Confirm with Town Government before proceeding.

Contractor requirements

Residential projects of $2,500 or more (labor + materials) require a valid West Virginia Contractor Licensing Board (WVCLB) license.
