Required to erect, construct, install, repair, alter, or enlarge any building or structure. Required for electrical wiring, gas systems, plumbing systems that become part of a structure, storage buildings, additions, renovations, and new construction.

International Building Code (IBC) with state amendments; International Residential Code (IRC) with state amendments; International Mechanical Code (IMC); International Plumbing Code (IPC); International Energy Conservation Code (IECC); National Electrical Code (NEC 2020)

Contractor requirements

Contractor licensing required per West Virginia law for projects exceeding $5,000 in residential work or $25,000 in commercial work. Proof of valid WVCLB license required for permit issuance.

   Obtain Building and Zoning Permit application form from City Hall (401 Davis Avenue) or Building Inspector.

   Complete all pages of the permit application with project details.

   Prepare detailed construction plans for renovations, additions, or new construction (required by inspector).

   Submit application with payment by mail or in person at City Hall.
5. 05
   Building Inspector reviews application and construction plans for compliance.

   Permit issued upon approval.
7. 07
   Schedule required inspections (rough-in and final) before construction commencement and upon completion.
