Building permits are required for construction, renovations, repairs, and demolitions; garage and shed construction; land development and site improvements; and building occupancy permits.

• Exempt Agricultural structures may be exempt from certain state fire code requirements

Contractor requirements

Contractors must hold a valid West Virginia Contractor Licensing Board license if project cost exceeds $2,500 for residential or $5,000 for commercial work.
