Unincorporated Doddridge County

Any permanent residential structure (including additions and major renovations) must meet building permit requirements. Structures increasing property value by more than $1,000 must file a Notice of Building or Real Property Improvement within 60 days of starting construction. Commercial structures subject to West Virginia State Building Code statewide.

Note: Doddridge County does not maintain a publicly documented list of exempt work. Confirm permit requirements with Assessor's Office before starting any construction. State Fire Marshal has enforcement authority over commercial and public buildings statewide.

Building code

International Residential Code (IRC) for residential structures on permanent foundations. West Virginia State Building Code (based on 2015 IBC with state amendments) applies to commercial and public buildings statewide. Doddridge County does not have a mandatory local residential building code for unincorporated areas.

Contractor requirements

West Virginia Contractor Licensing required for residential projects $5,000+ and commercial projects $25,000+. Contractor must hold valid WV Contractor Licensing Board license and business registration.
