Permit validity

Owner-builder
A Homeowners Permit is required if the work is done by the homeowner. A homeowner building or repairing their own residence or property owned and operated by the owner is exempt from the licensing provision, but work must still meet code and pass inspection.
Contractor requirements
Subcontractors other than the owner must be licensed. Electrical contractors must show a valid electrical license issued by a Texas city; one- and two-family residential electrical permits require at least a journeyman license, and commercial electrical permits require a master license. Plumbing contractors must hold the appropriate state plumbing license. Mechanical contractors must hold the appropriate air-conditioning and refrigeration contractor license issued by TDLR.
