Permit triggers and exempt work for Colorado City
A building permit is required for all construction, alterations, and repairs of buildings and structures within the City of Colorado City.

- Contractor requirements
- Permits for regulated work are issued only to persons duly licensed to perform that work and to qualifying homeowners. Contractors must be registered with the city before beginning work.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Verify the parcel is inside Colorado City limits.
- 02 Complete the City of Colorado City building permit application with owner data, construction address, Mitchell County Appraisal District property ID, legal description, construction type, improvement type, square footage, estimated value, material descriptions, and contractor information.
- 03 Register each contractor with the city before work begins by submitting the contractor registration form with current insurance documentation.
- 04 Submit plans to City Hall. New construction requires one digital PDF copy and two paper sets of plans and specifications (confirm current staff preference when submitting).
- 05 Wait for review, zoning and setback review, and permit issuance. Work may not start until approval is given and the permit is purchased.
- 06 Request inspections as needed during construction.
- 07 Obtain the final inspection and certificate of occupancy before occupying the building or structure.
