When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Milam County
The county's permit triggers are narrower than a city building department. A development permit is required for regulated development in the floodplain program; a county road entrance permit is required for any driveway connecting to a county road; septic work uses the county OSSF program; pipeline and land-development activities use the county's separate planning forms and regulations.
Note: No county-issued exempt-work table for a general unincorporated building permit program was found. However, county floodplain, road-access, subdivision, pipeline-crossing, RV park, manufactured-home-rental-community, and OSSF permits may still apply.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Confirm the parcel is in unincorporated Milam County and identify which county-controlled program applies: floodplain/development, subdivision or land development, county road entrance, pipeline crossing, RV park or manufactured home rental community, or OSSF/septic.
- 02 For floodplain and development activity, use the county's Development Permit Application. The posted form states no work may start until a development permit is issued.
- 03 For any driveway connecting to a county road, use the county road entrance permit application. The official application says applicants must meet the county commissioner on site.
- 04 For septic systems, submit the county OSSF application through Milam County Septic Permits / Health Department.
- 05 For subdivision or related land-development work, use the county subdivision rules, variance materials, RV park regulations, or other planning documents listed on the Planning and Development page.
