When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Paris
Every project must have a valid site permit and/or building permit, be inspected during construction, and receive a certificate of occupancy.
Note: No public exempt-work list was found on the main permit pages reviewed.
- Building code
- 2021 International Residential Code, 2021 International Fire Code, 2021 International Fuel Gas Code, 2020 National Electrical Code, and 2020 National Fuel Gas Code.
- Contractor requirements
- The MyGov portal includes a Credentials module. Separate contractor credential requirements should be verified in the portal by trade and permit type.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Confirm zoning and that the project is on a properly platted lot.
- 02 Apply for the needed site permit and/or building permit through the City of Paris MyGov portal.
- 03 Upload the project documents required by the permit type and respond to any staff comments in MyGov.
- 04 After review and issuance, perform work under permit and obtain required inspections during construction.
- 05 Receive certificate of occupancy at completion before occupancy.
