When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Junction
A building permit is required before constructing, reconstructing, renovating, or adding to any building or other structure within city limits. A floodplain development permit is required for development covered by the flood damage prevention ordinance. A plumbing permit is required before beginning plumbing installation or alteration work.

- For plumbing permits, a homeowner may receive a permit to install or alter plumbing in a single-family residence if the homeowner performs the work and the building is owned and occupied by the owner as a home.
- Contractor requirements
- The plumbing ordinance states only persons legally authorized to do plumbing may be issued plumbing permits.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Confirm the property is inside Junction city limits.
- 02 Determine whether the work triggers the city building-permit ordinance (construction, reconstruction, renovation, or addition to a building or structure).
- 03 Prepare the written application to the mayor on city forms, including legal description, street address, plans and specifications, estimated cost, building material, and location and distance to nearest property lines of each outside wall.
- 04 Pay the building permit fee of $50.00 at filing.
- 05 Wait for city investigation and decision by the mayor.
- 06 If the site is in a special flood hazard area, also submit a floodplain development permit application to the floodplain administrator.
- 07 Keep the work consistent with submitted plans; city may inspect and revoke or suspend permit if work materially deviates from approved application.
- 08 If permit is denied, suspended, or revoked, applicant may appeal to city council.

Building permit fee is paid at the time of filing. Fee is refunded if the building permit application is denied. Plumbing permit fees are set by the plumbing inspector.
