When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Hamilton

- Owner-performed trade work is allowed for plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work only if the applicant owns the residence, has lived there at least six months, and provides a copy of homestead exemption.
- Contractor requirements
- Contractors must provide registration number, proof of liability insurance, and valid photo ID. Plumbing work must be performed by a licensed plumber, electrical work by a licensed electrician, and mechanical work by a licensed technician, subject to homestead owner exceptions.

- 06 Wait for review and issuance; incomplete applications can delay review or cause denial.
- 07 Complete required inspections and obtain final inspection approval.
- 08 Obtain certificate of occupancy before occupying the building.
