Permit triggers and exempt work for Dalhart

- If the house is your homestead, you may obtain plumbing or electrical permits yourself and do the work yourself, but the work still must be inspected. Painting does not require a remodel permit.
- Contractor requirements
- Only licensed plumbers and electricians may do work on property that is not their homestead. Contractors must be registered with the City of Dalhart (registration costs $100 per year). Roof contractors also must be registered to repair or replace a roof on a building that is not the contractor's homestead.

- 01 Contact the permit clerk by phone at (806) 244-5511 ext. 3210 or 3213, or by email, to request the permit.
- 02 Complete the city permit application with job location, owner and permit-holder information, permit type, square footage, estimated cost, and project description.
- 03 Submit plans to the inspector either in person at City Hall or by email when the project requires plan review. Plans must comply with the 2015 International Building Codes.
- 04 If the project involves electrical or plumbing work on non-homestead property, the permit must be obtained by the licensed trade contractor. Contractors doing work on non-homestead property must also be registered with the city.
- 05 Pay the applicable permit and inspection fees. Inspection charges are due when the permit is issued.
- 06 Complete required inspections. Owner work on a homestead still must be inspected.
- 07 The permit is issued once the application, plans, and fees satisfy city requirements.
