When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Crockett County
A Floodplain Development Permit is required for development in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area. No public countywide general building permit is documented for ordinary construction outside the floodplain.
Note: The county permit program is limited to floodplain development. Verify applicability to your proposed work directly with the county.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Confirm the parcel is in unincorporated Crockett County and determine whether the proposed work is in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area.
- 02 If work is in the floodplain, complete Section I of the county's Floodplain Development Permit Application with owner, applicant, legal description, and project information.
- 03 Submit the application and any required supporting materials to the local Floodplain Administrator.
- 04 Provide any required supporting documents identified by the Floodplain Administrator, such as a site plan, Elevation Certificate, substantial-improvement support, Floodproofing Certificate, No-Rise Certificate, or elevation study.
- 05 Wait for permit determination. The Floodplain Administrator will either issue the permit, possibly with conditions, or deny it with an explanation of deficiencies.
- 06 Coordinate inspections during the work. The Floodplain Administrator or representative may perform inspections throughout the project and at completion.
- 07 Obtain the Certificate of Compliance before the development is used or occupied.
