When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Lufkin
Lufkin's adopted 2018 International Building Code and 2018 International Residential Code are adopted for regulating construction and for issuing permits and collecting fees. The city has deleted IBC and IRC Section 105.2 items 1 and 2, so accessory structures and fences are not exempt under those local amendments. Separate code provisions also require permits for work such as sidewalks, driveways, pools, signs, demolition, roofing, generators, retaining walls, and trade work.
Note: No comprehensive current public exempt-work list was found. Important local note: Lufkin's adopted amendments delete IBC and IRC permit exemptions for accessory structures and fences, so applicants should not assume those common model-code exemptions apply in Lufkin.
- Plans and specifications when required by the adopted codes
- Engineering review (when applicable)
- Planning and Zoning review (when applicable)
- Fire review (for commercial development)
- Building code
- Lufkin has adopted the 2018 International Building Code, 2018 International Residential Code, 2023 National Electrical Code, 2018 International Existing Building Code, and related technical codes in Article 3.03 of the city code. The reviewed article index also shows adopted plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, and swimming pool code divisions.
