When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Madison
Permits are required unless specifically exempt in the 'Work Exempt from Building Permit' document. All exterior and interior improvements listed in the exemption guide require a permit.
Note: A 'Work Exempt from Building Permit' document is available on the city website. Even if a project does not require a building permit, any work within the floodplain is subject to a floodplain development permit and must comply with all city ordinances, zoning regulations, and flood damage prevention standards.
