When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Newberry County

- Homeowner may obtain permit to perform construction on their own residence only if the home is not offered for sale or rent for two years after completion.

- General or Mechanical Contractor license required through SC Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation. For work over $200 on residential property, worker must be licensed for specific trade.

- 01 Obtain Zoning Permit from Planning & Zoning Office (1512 Martin Street) - fee $20.00 per structure
- 02 Submit Building Permit application with two sets of construction plans and required documentation to Building Inspection Department
- 03 Include contractor name, address, telephone number, SC LLR license number, signed contract, total project cost, and homeowner disclosure form if applicable
- 04 Building inspector reviews plans and issues permit
- 05 Contact Building Inspector at least 24 hours in advance to schedule inspections at required code stages
- 06 Final inspection required before Certificate of Occupancy issuance
