Per Rhode Island General Law section 23-27.3-113.1, a permit is required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair (beyond ordinary repairs), remove, or demolish any building or structure, or to change occupancy. Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work requires specialty permits.
