When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Beale Township
A permit is generally required for construction, alteration, repair, removal, change of occupancy, and regulated electrical, gas, mechanical, and plumbing work under 34 Pa. Code 403.42.
- Exempt Fences not over 6 feet high
- Exempt Retaining walls not over 4 feet high unless supporting a surcharge or impounding certain liquids
- Exempt Water tanks on grade up to 5,000 gallons within code limits
- Exempt Sidewalks and driveways not more than 30 inches above grade, not over a basement or story below, and not part of an accessible route
- Exempt Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops, and similar finish work
- Exempt Certain small above-ground prefabricated pools, playground equipment, and window awnings
- Exempt Ordinary repairs as defined by 34 Pa. Code 403.42(d)

- CCIS forms allow filing by the owner or an authorized agent. Owner-builders must provide contractor information when applicable.
- Contractor requirements
- No Beale Township-specific contractor license required. Pennsylvania home improvement contractors performing over $5,000 in work on homes must register under the Pennsylvania Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act.
