When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Danbury
Danbury states that prior to beginning residential or business construction, or installing, repairing, or altering any sign within the Town of Danbury or its ETJ, the applicant must secure a zoning compliance permit and/or sign permit. Building-code permits are handled through Stokes County.
- Exempt Certain licensed like-kind water-heater and electrical fixture replacements in one- and two-family dwellings.
- Exempt Small projects costing $40,000 or less may be exempt when they do not involve structural, design, roofing-addition, prohibited-material, or fire-code-triggering work.
Note: Danbury does not publish its own exempt-work list on the town website. Building-permit exemptions therefore follow the statewide rules in G.S. 160D-1110.
