When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Rowan County
Rowan requires building permits for construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, movement, removal, or demolition of buildings and for installation, extension, alteration, or general repair of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, subject to state exemptions.
Low-cost work at $40,000 or less in a single-family residence, farm building, or commercial building may be exempt if it does not add or repair load-bearing structures
Like-kind plumbing replacements with no size or capacity change may be exempt
Like-kind replacement of electrical devices and lighting fixtures may be exempt
Roof replacement is generally exempt, but adding roofing is not
Work that does not trigger the NC Fire Code may remain exempt if the rest of the statute is satisfied
