When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Granville County
Required for new construction, alterations, modifications to existing residential and non-residential buildings, decks, above-ground pools, and most accessory structures; shingles-only replacement does not require a building permit.

- 01 Obtain zoning permit or zoning exemption/interior exemption from the proper zoning authority.
- 02 Obtain Fire Marshal approval when required for the project.
- 03 Prepare plans and required copies for the project type.
- 04 Complete the building permit application.
- 05 Pay the plan review fee and submit documents online, by email, or in person.
- 06 County staff reviews the application and issues the permit if complete.
