- All contractors must hold current Nebraska DOL Contractor Registration ($25/year) and maintain workers' compensation insurance. Electrical contractors must be licensed through NSED. Plumbers must be licensed through Nebraska State Plumbing Board.
Application process
Typical processing: Minimum 10 working days for plan review
- 01 Obtain building permit application from Building Inspector's office, City Hall, 306 Pearl Street
- 02 Complete application with: description and scope of work, project plan/drawing, site plan (for new construction or additions), contractor information, electrician/plumber/architect/engineer information as applicable, estimated project value, proposed completion date
- 03 Submit application and pay applicable permit fee
- 04 Allow minimum 10 working days for plan review and permit issuance
- 05 For commercial/institutional projects: submit plans concurrently to Nebraska State Fire Marshal
- 06 Permit becomes valid upon issuance; do not commence work until permit is issued
- 07 Maintain permit card at job site
- 08 Schedule required inspections at appropriate construction milestones
- 09 Obtain Certificate of Occupancy before occupying any new structure
